Weighing options

  • On one hand... on the other hand...
  • The upside is X, but the main risk is Y.
  • If we go with X, then Y follows.

Making the call

  • I'm going to make the call on this one.
  • We'll move forward with the second plan.

Explaining a decision

  • We decided on X because...
  • Given the budget, the safer option is...
  • The data pointed us toward this option.

Postponing a decision

  • Let's hold off until we have more information.
  • I'd like to sleep on it.
  • Can we revisit this next week?

Setting priorities

  • This is a top priority, we need it by close of business today.
  • That's a lower priority, we can revisit it next week.
  • Let's deal with what's urgent first.

Getting buy-in

  • Is everyone on board with this?
  • Any objections before we move ahead?
  • Let's make sure we're aligned before we start.

  • Capaz and no se as a full answer read as indecisive in English. If you're not ready to decide, say so with a reason and a date: let's hold off until we have the numbers.
  • English decisions are usually stated, then explained: we're going with X, because Y, not a long build-up before the choice.
  • Sleep on it is a real, accepted way to postpone a decision in English business culture. It is not evasive, it buys honest thinking time.
  • To get agreement, ask directly: is everyone on board? A silent room is not the same as agreement in English meetings.
  • When several decisions compete for attention, name which is urgent out loud: this is a top priority, or that's a lower priority. It sets expectations without you having to explain the reasoning every time.

Questions

How do I say no to an idea without sounding negative?
Focus on the trade-off, not the rejection: the risk with that option is... It keeps the conversation about the decision, not the person who suggested it.
What if I need more time to decide?
Say so directly, with a date: let's hold off until Thursday. It reads as careful, not unprepared.
