¿Por qué no se dice another ideas?

Another siempre es singular: significa uno adicional. Para más de uno, usá other: other ideas.

¿Cuándo uso the other en vez de another?

Usá the other para algo específico, ya mencionado, sobre todo el segundo de exactamente dos: one was late, the other was on time.
